CHANNEL DESIGN ANALYSIS

The design of vertical and horizontal dimensions of harbour approach channels and the manoeuvring and anchorage areas within harbours, along with defining restrictions to operations within a channel is of particular interest when evaluating economic and environmental considerations. These dimensions can be obtained based on deterministic or probabilistic approach (the latter being more modelling intensive).

The following analyses can be carried out:

Channel width design or optimization, including engineering judgment regarding aids to navigation.
Channel depth design or optimization, considering the following water level, ship related and bottom related factors (as defined in PIANC harbour approach guidelines (2014):
